Derbyshire Dales gets the recycling message into the community
The District of Derbyshire Dales puts a great deal of effort into encouraging recycling among some of the most ardent recycling enthusiasts at some local events.
The following comments were made by the Districts Environmental Education Officer Georgina Cass after Recresco sent some promotional items along to the council offices to support their 2006 campaign...
"...Just to let you know what Derbyshire Dales District Council have been doing with the 'recresco' clothes you kindly sent us.
A certain amount was given as prizes for a schools competition to design a magnet for our "Watch Your Waste" campaign. Pupils designed an image for the magnet on the theme of "Watch Your Waste, reduce, re-use, recycle" which have been manufactured and issued to residents as a visual reminder at home and to attach their recycling calendar to their fridge."
Georgina obtained some good press coverage for recycling too after a year 6 student at Pilsley Primary school, Grace Randles, won the design competition for the fridge magnet. The "Derbyshire Times" on 22.06.06 covered the event under the headline "Grace's Green message".
And that wasn`t all, the World Cup provided more opportunities
A substantial amount of the other clothes were given as prizes at our "Celebrating Young People" event as part of our "Big Recycle" activities. On the run up to the world cup we were promoting recycling in general alongside the national campaign and had a 'recycled shoot out' competition. Prizes were given to the winning team at the football event and to the winner of the 'recycled shoot out' competition."
She has more planned too and adds
"Thanks again for the clothes. The remaining items will be used during the summer events for competitions etc. (and I wear one of the jumpers when I'm out and about as well!)"
